In this interview with the Health in Humanitarian Crises Centre at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) to mark World Refugee Day 2024 (20 June), Jennifer Palmer discusses the context in which one million South Sudanese fled to Uganda in 2013; the circumstances that those seeking to work in the local health system have experienced in Uganda; her collaboration with refugee-led organisations there; and the key findings from her study.
Jennifer considers the implications for how governments and humanitarian organisations can better support the employment of refugee health workers and how this links to wider health workforce issues in Uganda and elsewhere.
